About Sonamarg

Sonamarg is an alpine valley in the Ganderbal district, located along the historical Silk Route and defined by the fast-flowing, glacial Sindh River. Spending dedicated nights here allows you to escape highway traffic loops, explore the vast meadows of Baltal, and take unhurried excursions to Zojila Pass and Zero Point. Sonamarg is a critical gateway — the final major valley before the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Leh Highway climbs sharply over the Zojila Pass toward Kargil and Leh, and a major base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Why Visit Sonamarg

  • Active Families: wide river flats, trout streams, and horse riding opportunities.
  • Offbeat Explorers: raw, high-altitude landscapes venturing toward Ladakh.
  • Photography Enthusiasts: dramatic Sindh gorge rock faces and jagged peaks.
  • Road Trip Enthusiasts: the scenic Srinagar–Sonamarg–Leh Highway along the roaring Sindh River gorge.
