While UPI and credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, premium houseboats, and major shops in Srinagar, Kashmir remains highly cash-reliant. You must carry sufficient physical cash to pay for local union sightseeing cabs, pony rides, shikara crossings, and local market purchases.

For a 5-night or 6-night trip, we recommend spending only one night on a traditional houseboat and the remaining nights in comfortable hotels. This gives you the unique heritage experience of living on the water without the minor logistical inconveniences of houseboat life for your entire holiday.
