About this experience
Pony riding is one of Kashmir's oldest and most traditional ways to explore the rugged mountain terrain of Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Before roads and cable cars carved their way through the hills, hardy mountain ponies were the primary means of transport for nomadic shepherds and early explorers. Many of Kashmir's most spectacular alpine clearings and panoramic viewpoints remain accessible only on foot or by horse.
Why Experience Pony Ride in Pahalgam & Gulmarg
After selecting a suitable pony and meeting your licensed local handler, the steady, rhythmic clatter of hooves replaces the sounds of the town. In Pahalgam, the trail climbs through deodar and fir forests toward Baisaran Valley ("Mini Switzerland"). In Gulmarg, the route traces the scenic Outer Circle Road past historic wooden cottages and the alpine golf course.
Activity Highlights
Baisaran Valley Climb (Pahalgam)
Pahalgam's most famous riding route, ascending through pine forest to a breathtaking alpine meadow.
Gulmarg Outer Circle Walk
