Meadow of gold

Sonmarg — literally 'meadow of gold' — sits at 2,800 m along the Sindh river and marks the entry point of the Himalayan high-altitude terrain. It is the base for the spectacular Thajiwas Glacier, the Krishnasar and Vishansar alpine lakes trek, and serves as the last major stop before Zoji La pass on the Srinagar–Leh highway.
